Luke Shaw rolls his ankle and sub Brandon Williams suffers gruesome head injury

Manchester United’s Luke Shaw had rolled his ankle around the 75th minute of their game against Southampton on Monday. So, Shaw’s natural replacement, Brandon Williams was brought on to sub.

However, shortly after being brought on, the young defender clashed heads with Saint’s full-back Kyle Walker-Peters. Williams came off worse, though, with a nasty gash above his eye causing a bloody scene.

Medics, in full PPE, rushed to the pitch to aid the injury, while commentator Gary Neville said, “there is quite a bit of blood on the side of his head there. He is the type that will want to get up and carry on but it’s whether he will be allowed to.”
Chris Sutton also added that it was a ‘nasty, nasty collision’. “It is good to see the medical teams of both sides on the pitch immediately. You cannot take chances with head knocks”.

This forced Williams to depart at the 89-minute mark leaving United down to 10 men – as they had already used their allocated substitution slots.

Solskjaer hopes for good news following Shaw’s scan on his ankle. But as he has not seen Williams, this also leaves doubt as to if he will be playing Thursday too.
