Lionel Messi ‘thinking of leaving Barcelona Next Summer’

The Argentine is looking to leave Barcelona once his £500,000 per week contract expires in 2021.

Lionel Messi has been with Barcelona for the duration of his career; however, internal discontent has arisen forcing Messi to question his future with the club. It is reported there is growing tension between the playing squad and coach Quique Setien, who has failed to win over the dressing room since becoming coach earlier this season.

Despite holding a slim advantage over Madrid before lockdown, they are now four points behind Real Madrid – only adding to frustrations.

Tensions seemed to be boiling over during the lockdown when the club’s hierarchy Josep Bartomeu looked to negotiate a wage cut with its players due to financial ramifications of the pandemic. Although, it has emerged that players, such as Messi, were being selfish and refusing to participate in the pay cut. Messi then called out the Barcelona board in a response:

“it never ceases to amaze us that from within the club there were those who tried to put us under a magnifying glass, adding pressure for us to do what we were always going to do anyway. In fact, we waited a few days because we were trying to find a formula to help the club and its workers in such difficult times”.

Now, the superstar-goal-scorer has been linked with a potential move back to Newell’s Old Boys, as Vice President Cristian D’Amico has acknowledged they would welcome Lionel Messi back in a heart beat
