Pep Guardiola confirms Guard of Honour for Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium

City’s loss to Chelsea put Liverpool out of reach at a whopping 23 points ahead. So, Guardiola will pay tribute to Klopp’s side.
After watching the Chelsea-City game, a number of reds celebrated together, including Klopp. Klopp said he was speechless, “it is unbelievable”.
“Its much more than I ever thought would be possible. Becoming champion with this club is absolutely incredible … especially after the 3-month break, it is quite an achievement … I know it is difficult for people at this moment, but we could not hold back. We will enjoy this with our supporters when we can”.
Despite there being safety concerns of fans gathering outside the stadium, City have been given permission to host the upcoming game against Liverpool.
Pep has confirmed that when both teams meet at the Etihad on Thursday 2nd July, Man City will form a guard of honour for the newly crowned Premier League Champions. After 30 years, Liverpool finally stole the crown that City have deservedly being wearing for the past two years; after Manchester City’s 2-1 loss against Chelsea on 25/06/20.
In a statement, Guardiola said:
“Of course, we are going to do it, we are going to do the guard of honour … Always we receive Liverpool when they come to our house in an incredible way. They cannot complain and, of course, we are going to do it because they deserve it.”
